1997 Porsche Boxster
Overview
1997 Was the first year for the Porsche Boxster. The Boxster name comes from combining ‘boxer’ from the boxer flat six engine, and ‘speedster’. It is Porsche’s first roadster since the 1950’s era 550 Spyder, and the design recalls the classic 550. The Boxster model is credited with saving Porsche in the 1990s. Their sales were low, and the Boxster became their top volume seller until the Cayenne came along.
This Boxster was purchased by my wife’s brother’s Father-in-Law about 6 years ago at 77,000 miles, and current mileage is 87,000. He is a retired person and wanted it as a fun car in retirement. He has performed regular maintenance. including the IMS bearing. One failure point on the engines in the early water-cooled Boxsters and 996 generation 911’s was the intermediate shaft bearing. The IMS bearing was replaced in this Boxster.
